Day 3 Recap: A Powerful Conclusion to the Syracuse Summer Summit

The third and final day of the Syracuse Summer Summit was a day to remember, bringing together every educator in the district for a day filled with inspiration, learning, and celebration. Held at the OnCenter, Marriott and Atrium, the day was marked by powerful messages, collective reflection, and a shared commitment to the year ahead.

Aisha Bowe’s Inspirational Keynote

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the keynote address by Aisha Bowe, whose journey from a disengaged high school student to a NASA rocket scientist and soon-to-be the first African American astronaut to go to space with Blue Origin, left the audience in awe. Aisha’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance, curiosity, and the impact that dedicated educators can have on a student's life. Her message was clear: educators have the power to stoke the fires of potential in their students, and the influence they wield can change lives. Aisha’s keynote was a stirring reminder of why we do what we do.

Teacher and Student Performances Set the Stage

Aisha Bowe’s introduction was made even more special by another round of outstanding student performances. Our teachers and students once again took the stage, showcasing their talents and reminding us all of the bright futures we are helping to shape. Their performances added a touch of warmth and pride to the day, setting the perfect tone for Aisha’s powerful words.

Engagement Across the District

Throughout the day, employees from all corners of the district engaged in a variety of sessions, each designed to equip them with new tools and insights for the upcoming school year. Whether it was discussing innovative teaching strategies, exploring new technologies, or reflecting on personal growth, these sessions provided valuable opportunities for learning and collaboration.

Deborah Little’s Talk on how Words Have Life

Another standout moment was Deborah Little’s inspirational talk about how words have life. She reminded us all that the language we use can uplift or diminish, empower or discourage. Her message resonated deeply, encouraging educators to be mindful of the words they choose and to use them as tools for positive change in their classrooms and beyond.

Convocation: A New Beginning

The day concluded with a Convocation led by the superintendent, who officially opened the new school year. This moment of collective focus and commitment was a fitting end to the summit, as educators across the district came together to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. It was a raucous event that reached its peak during the traditional role call, the opportunity for the district to shoutout all of its workers. The emcee was Syracuse alumni and actor Imani Pearl Williams and mayor of Syracuse, Ben Walsh, stopped by to thank educators everywhere for their work.

Celebrating the End of Summer

To cap off an incredible day and an inspiring summit, everyone gathered at Barry Park for a cookout. It was a time to relax, enjoy good food, and celebrate the end of summer with colleagues and friends. The cookout was a perfect way to close out the summit, leaving everyone refreshed and ready to tackle the new school year with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

Looking Ahead

As the Syracuse Summer Summit comes to a close, the connections made, the knowledge gained, and the inspiration shared will carry us through the school year. With the support of our colleagues and the community, we are ready to make a positive impact on the lives of our students. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
